TSAG’s 2nd Annual Youth Environmental Stewardship Camp
TSAG’s 2nd Annual Youth Environmental Stewardship Camp was held July 17th-24th, 2010 for First Nations youth grades 9-12 at the Centre for Outdoor Education (COE) located 10km West of Nordegg, AB. The Camp was a great success with 14 First Nations youth from across the province participating.
The camp focused on Environmental Stewardship and Conservation leadership. With a primary goal to encourage youth to continue in Science and Math Post-Secondary education, a variety of topics and careers were discussed throughout the week such as Water, Fish Habitat Conservation and Protection, and Species at Risk.
Careers discussed included:
- Fisheries Biology GIS analysis
- Environmental Management Environmental Health Officer Careers
- Environmental Technology Water Plant Operation
- Engineering Engineering Design and Drafting Technology
- Community Health Representative Roles Lands and Infrastructure management

During the day, students were busy with activities such as canyoneering, white water rafting, rock climbing as well as touring the Columbia Ice fields and the Bighorn Water Treatment Plant. During the evenings, students were treated to presentations on various education and career paths from experts in the field.
