First Nations Conservation and Protection Stewardship Program
In order to raise awareness on conservation and protection stewardship actions and initiatives in First Nation communities in Alberta, First Nations (Alberta) Technical Services Advisory Group has created the First Nations Conservation and Protection Stewardship Program. The program promotes various federal and regional environmental management programs and initiatives, and provides tools and resources for the pathway to community stewardship. The program also identifies potential conservation, protection, or stewardship programs and projects, which is completed by working with Tribal Councils and community land use plans. Community projects or programs can include biophysical inventories or conservation and protection of habitat on reserve. Through educational programs, building local capacity, and identifying, facilitating and deploying programs and projects that meet the needs of the various communities involved, successful management of the environment can be achieved.
The First Nations Conservation and Protection Stewardship program also develops training materials, and organizes and delivers workshops on conservation, protection and stewardship activities that are capable of being carried out at the community and regional levels. These workshops are offered for free to residents, band administration, band council members and technical service providers. The workshops make use of environmental management tools and techniques that improve the potential for implementing conservation, protection and stewardship program through environmental strategies.
