R2000 Housing and Standards Training
R-2000 is an industrial-endorsed technical performance (voluntary) standard for energy efficiency, indoor air quality and environmental responsibility in home construction that was created following the Kyoto Protocol.
The R-2000 objective is to encourage the construction and purchasing of energy efficient and environmentally responsible homes. R-2000 is administered by Natural Resources Canada and delivered by numerous delivery agents across Canada. One of those delivery agents is First Nations (Alberta) Technical Services Advisory Group.

By raising awareness of R-2000 standards, which exceed energy performance requirements of Canadian building codes, First Nations can meet environmental responsibility and health standards, and enjoy living in comfort in state of the art quality homes.
R-2000 home construction and retrofits are done by builders who have been licensed by the Government of Canada as certified R-2000 professionals, which apply to have the homes they build certified to the R-2000 Standard. R-2000 homes also lead the way in environmental responsibility by using environmentally improved materials and building techniques. This helps to keep Canada's environment healthy by reducing demand on natural resources and reducing greenhouse gases.
R-2000 homes have fresh indoor air, even temperatures, lower energy demand and fewer moisture problems then average homes that just meet Canadian building codes.
Overall R-2000 home builders are working towards managing climate change and implementing the Kyoto Accord.
Participants in the R-2000 Initiative must take training before they can be
licensed by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) (as R-2000 builders and service providers)
or they can work on an R-2000 home (as mechanical systems designers and installers).
There are various mandatory training requirements for becoming an R-2000 builder or becoming an R-2000 service provider. In addition, the R-2000 Initiative recommends attending optional courses for further professional development.
We are pleased to announce that a number of R-2000 Training Courses are now available through TSAG. Please click here for more information about these courses.
