Alberta First Nations Schoolnet
|
Computers and Internet access are important tools for creating stimulating learning environments. Recognizing the challenges that First Nations schools may face in accessing and applying these technologies, Industry Canada created the First Nations SchoolNet program.
|
 |
“The First Nations SchoolNet Program is to connect First Nations schools to the Internet by Providing and maintaining computers and providing subsidies for access.”
Non-Profit Regional Management Organizations (RMO) work with Industry Canada to deliver the program to First Nations schools. Any First Nations school under the Government of Canada's jurisdiction is eligible to participate in the program.
Program Objectives:
- Providing First Nations Schools with telecommunications infrastructure.
- Promoting the effective use of information and communications technologies in the classroom.
- Offering skill development opportunities to teachers and students.
- Accelerating the development of stronger communities, people and economies. SchoolNet is focused on extending connectivity to First Nations schools that have not yet been connected to the internet.
|
As an innovative resource, SchoolNet can provide First Nations school initiatives and technical solutions to support learning. Whether we are working to expand the capacity of educators to use online learning options, or providing on-demand resources to support the effective use of educational technologies, SchoolNet was created to be a flexible and agile entity. TSAG is proud to serve as the RMO for Alberta First Nations SchoolNet.
